eToro bonus 2026: deposit tiers and free asset value
The eToro welcome bonus is tiered. The larger the first deposit, the larger the free asset. There is no intermediate step: crossing a threshold moves you to the next tier, staying one dollar below it does not.
| First deposit | Free asset value (stocks or crypto) | Bonus as a share of deposit |
|---|---|---|
| $500 to $999 Most common entry point | $40 | 8.0% to 4.0% |
| $1,000 to $4,999 | $100 | 10.0% to 2.0% |
| $5,000 to $9,999 | $300 | 6.0% to 3.0% |
| $10,000 or more | $500 | 5.0% or less |
The third column is the part most comparison pages leave out. The bonus is worth the most, in percentage terms, right at the bottom of each tier. Depositing $1,000 earns $100, a 10% return on the qualifying amount. Depositing $4,900 earns the same $100, or 2%. If your target deposit sits just under a threshold, moving up to the threshold is the only decision here that changes the outcome.
Only the first deposit counts. Adding money later does not upgrade the tier.

eToro bonus calculator: what your deposit actually earns
Because the thresholds are in USD and most European users fund in euros, the tier you land in depends on the exchange rate on the day the deposit is converted. Enter your planned deposit below. If you are funding in euros, adjust the rate to the one your bank or card is quoting.
Qualifying deposit. It has to stay in the account for 90 days.
Estimate only. eToro applies its own conversion rate at the moment of deposit, and the credited asset can be worth slightly less than the headline figure once trading costs are applied. Your capital is at risk.

How the eToro bonus works step by step
There is no promo code and no separate opt in after registration. The sequence matters, though, because the asset choice is made during signup and cannot be changed afterwards.
- Open the account. Register as a new user and complete identity verification. Verification has to be finished before the bonus can be assigned.
- Pick stocks or crypto. You select one asset type during registration. This is the only point at which the choice is made.
- Fund the account with at least $500. Only the first deposit is a qualifying deposit. If your first deposit is $100 and your second is $2,000, the tier is set by the first one.
- Leave the qualifying amount untouched for 90 days. You can invest it, but you cannot withdraw it.
- Receive the asset. It is normally credited within 7 days of the conditions being met and appears as an ordinary position.

The most common way people lose the bonus is not a rejected application. It is depositing a small test amount first, then adding the real money afterwards. That first small deposit is the one that counts.
Minimum deposit and the 90 day holding requirement
To qualify, eToro requires a first deposit of at least $500, and that amount is locked for 90 days. Locked does not mean idle: the money can be invested during the period. What it cannot do is leave the account.

What this means in practice:
- Only the first deposit qualifies, regardless of what you add later
- Withdrawing the qualifying amount before day 90 voids the bonus
- You can trade freely with the money inside the account
- If your positions fall in value, the balance available to withdraw at day 90 can be lower than what you put in
That last point is the one worth pausing on. A 90 day lock on money you might need is a real cost, and it is not offset by a $40 asset. If there is any chance you will want the deposit back inside three months, a high yield savings account in Europe is a better home for it than a locked brokerage deposit.

Stocks or crypto: what you actually receive
eToro credits a real investment asset, not cash and not trading credit. During registration you choose one of two categories:
- Stocks, or
- Cryptocurrency

Details that change the value of what you get:
- The specific asset comes from a pre approved list, you do not pick the ticker
- Which assets are on that list depends on your country of residence and local rules
- The realised value can be below the headline figure once spread and trading costs are applied
- Once credited, the position is yours and moves with the market like any other
The crypto option is the more volatile of the two. A $40 crypto position can be worth $30 or $55 a month later. Crypto assets are highly volatile, unregulated in several EU countries and carry no consumer protection. If the point of the bonus is a predictable small gain, stocks are the more consistent choice.
eToro is one of several regulated platforms open to European investors. For the wider field, see our trading platforms in Europe overview.
When the bonus asset is credited to your account
Once registration, verification and the qualifying deposit are all complete, the asset is assigned automatically.
- Normally credited within 7 days of qualifying
- Longer in some cases, usually where verification documents needed a second review
- No action is required from you once the conditions are met
- It appears in the portfolio as a normal open position
If nothing has arrived after two weeks, the usual cause is an incomplete verification step rather than a rejected bonus. Support can confirm the status of the qualifying deposit.
Can you sell the eToro bonus asset straight away
Yes. The bonus asset can be sold at any time after it is credited. The lock applies to the deposit, not to the reward.
- The free asset can be sold immediately after credit
- Standard trading costs apply on the sale
- The qualifying deposit still has to stay for the full 90 days
- Selling the bonus does not release the deposit early
- Any gain may be taxable in your country of residence, and the value of the free asset itself may count as income depending on local rules

The tax treatment of a free asset varies significantly across European countries. This page is general information, not tax advice, and it is worth checking your own position before you sell.
Which European countries the eToro bonus is available in
Availability depends on your country of residence and on local financial promotion rules, which differ across the EU. Some national regulators restrict promotional incentives more tightly than others, and the offer shown to you is filtered accordingly.

What holds true across the region:
- The offer is presented during registration only if it is available in your jurisdiction
- Thresholds are always defined in USD, whatever currency you fund in
- Local regulation can limit which asset types are offered as the reward
- Where the promotion runs, the mechanics are the same: qualifying first deposit plus a 90 day hold
The reliable way to check is to start the registration flow and see whether the bonus step appears for your country. The official promotion page shows the terms that apply to you.
For residents of the European Economic Area, accounts are held with the eToro European entity and supervised by its home regulator, with other regions served by separate entities under their own supervisors, including the Financial Conduct Authority in the United Kingdom. Regulation sets conduct standards. It does not remove investment risk.
eToro bonus compared with other European broker welcome offers
Welcome offers in Europe fall into three shapes: a tiered free asset tied to deposit size, a single free share for opening an account, or no offer at all in exchange for permanently lower costs. They are not directly comparable, because the conditions attached carry most of the value.
| Broker | Offer type | Main condition |
|---|---|---|
| eToro | Tiered free asset, stocks or crypto, scaling with the first deposit | $500 minimum, deposit locked 90 days |
| Freedom24 | Free shares campaign, number and value depend on the promotion running at the time | Varies by campaign, unlocked after a qualifying deposit |
| Trading 212 | Single free fractional share on account opening | Low entry deposit, one share only |
| XTB | No standing welcome bonus, positioned on low ongoing costs instead | Not applicable |
The honest read: a welcome bonus is a one time payment, while spreads, conversion fees and withdrawal costs are recurring. On a $500 deposit held for years, the difference in ongoing costs between two platforms will normally outweigh a $40 opening gift. Pick the platform first, then take the bonus if it happens to be there.
Our full ranking of platforms by cost and features is in the best brokers in Europe guide.
Is the eToro referral bonus the same as the welcome bonus
No. They are two separate programmes and they cannot be combined into one larger reward.

- The welcome bonus is for new users making a qualifying first deposit
- The referral bonus rewards an existing user for inviting someone else
- Referral rewards are not permanently active and differ by country
- Conditions and amounts are set separately for each programme
If you are opening your first account, the welcome bonus is the relevant one.
What the bonus actually costs you
Most pages covering this offer stop at the reward. These are the four things that determine whether it is worth claiming:
- Liquidity. $500 locked for 90 days is money you cannot reach in an emergency
- Market risk. The deposit is in a brokerage account. If you invest it and markets fall, you can end the 90 days with less than you started with, and the bonus does not compensate for that
- Currency. Funding in euros means a conversion into USD, and conversion costs reduce the net value of the deposit and the reward
- Platform lock in. Choosing a broker for an opening gift rather than for its ongoing costs is how people end up on the wrong platform for years
Claim it if you were going to open an account with eToro anyway and the $500 is money you can leave alone for three months. Skip it if either of those is not true.
Before registering, confirm the following:
- You are a new user, the offer does not apply to existing accounts
- Your first deposit reaches the USD threshold after conversion
- You can leave that amount in place for 90 days
- You have chosen stocks or crypto deliberately, since the choice is made at signup
- You have read the current promotional terms on the eToro site, since they can change

eToro welcome bonus FAQ
Does eToro have a sign up bonus
Yes. eToro runs a welcome bonus for new users in Europe, paid as a free stock or crypto asset. The value depends on the first deposit and reaches up to $500. Availability depends on your country of residence.
How do I get the $50 sign up bonus on eToro
A $50 figure appears in region specific campaigns rather than in the European offer. In Europe the entry tier is $40 for a first deposit between $500 and $999, rising with larger deposits.
Is the eToro welcome bonus real money or promotional credit
It is a real asset, a stock or a cryptocurrency, credited to your portfolio. It is not cash and not bonus credit, and its value moves with the market from the moment it is assigned.
Can I withdraw the bonus immediately
You can sell the bonus asset as soon as it is credited and withdraw the proceeds, subject to standard withdrawal terms. The qualifying deposit itself stays locked for 90 days.
Do I have to trade to keep the free stocks
No. There is no trading volume requirement. The only condition after the deposit is leaving the qualifying amount in the account for 90 days.
Why are the amounts in USD if I deposit in euros
eToro sets its thresholds in USD and converts incoming euro deposits at its own rate. A euro deposit close to a threshold can land in the tier below if the rate moves, which is what the calculator above is for.
Is the bonus available to existing eToro users
No. It applies to new accounts only, one per person, linked to the email and identity used at registration.
What happens if I withdraw before the 90 days are up
Withdrawing the qualifying deposit early voids the bonus, and eToro can remove the credited asset. Selling the free asset first does not protect it.
