My Experience: Comparing Interactive Brokers and Freedom24

I have had accounts at both, and I want to be precise about how that ended, because it changed since I first wrote this comparison.

Interactive Brokers is a powerhouse for seasoned traders. The tools are advanced, the global market coverage is unmatched, and the pricing structure rewards high-volume trading. I opened it for US options and access to markets my bank could not reach, and it delivered on both. It also felt overwhelming every single time I logged in.

Freedom24 started as a test. I expected to use it for a few weeks and go back. Instead, within a month everything had moved there: the interface is simpler, I stopped making order-entry mistakes, I have a named assistant I can email, and when an instrument is missing I send the ISIN and they add it. Nothing else I have used does that.

Today my IBKR account is still open, but I have not placed a trade there in a long time. Freedom24 is where I actually invest. That is not a fee decision, IBKR is cheaper for many things. It is a friction decision. I explain who should stay on IBKR and who should not in my guide to IBKR alternatives for Europeans.
