| eToro | Market, limit, stop | ProCharts, social feed, CopyTrader | No | No | No | Yes, $100,000 |
Reading the table: Interactive Brokers and Saxo are the only two international online brokers here with professional order types, extended hours and a full API; the other five are apps built around a mobile order ticket. XTB xStation 5 is the fastest of them. Freedom24 adds the one thing no other platform here offers: a person you can call. Scalable Broker is the odd one out: an investing app with three order types.
Trading Platform Fees for Active Traders
Trading fees and non-trading fees on a trader who places 60 orders of €1,000 per year, half on EUR-listed stocks and half on US stocks bought in dollars, with one bank withdrawal. Currency conversion fees are included; none of the six charges a monthly fee.
| Platform | EU stocks | US stocks | Currency conversion | Withdrawal | Annual cost, test profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XTB | 0% up to €100,000 per month | 0% up to €100,000 per month | 0.5% | €0 from €100 | €150 |
| Interactive Brokers (Fixed) | €3 min, 0.05% above €6,000 | $0.005 per share, min $1 | 0.03% | 1 free per month | €129 |
| Trading 212 | €0 | $0 | 0.15% | €0 | €45 |
| Saxo (Classic) | 0.08%, min €2 | 0.08%, min $1 | 0.25% | €0 | €165 plus custody where applied (0.15% p.a.) |
| Freedom24 (Smart plan) | €2 + €0.02 per share | $2 + $0.02 per share | Spread only, about 0.005% | €7 | €139 |
| Scalable Broker (FREE) | €0.99; €0 on PRIME ETFs from €250 | €0.99, traded in EUR on gettex | None (spread instead) | €0 | €59 |
| eToro (EUR account) | $1 per trade | $1 per trade | 0.75% | €0 | €255 |
Compare brokers on total trading costs, not on the headline commission. The currency conversion fee decides the cost for active traders who buy US stocks. At 0.5% (XTB) or 0.75% (eToro) the “0% commission” headline costs more than a €3 fixed commission at Interactive Brokers.
Trading 212 wins on cost because 0.15% is the lowest conversion fee among the commission-free platforms; Scalable avoids the fee by trading US stocks in euros, at the price of a wider spread.
The 7 Best Trading Platforms in Europe, Tested
🥇 1. xStation 5: the fastest platform for stocks and CFDs
XTB is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, serves more than 2 million clients and is regulated by KNF, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and CySEC. xStation 5 (web) and xStation Mobile are built in-house and are the fastest platforms in this list: one-click trading, market sentiment, economic calendar, free real-time quotes.
Fees: 0% commission on stocks and ETFs up to €100,000 monthly turnover, then 0.2% (min €10). Currency conversion 0.5% (0.8% at weekends). Withdrawals free from €100. Inactivity fee €10 per month after 12 months without trades and 90 days without deposits.
Why it is first: xStation 5 is the platform I open when I want to trade, not to think about the platform. Orders go through in one click, charts and real-time quotes are free, and a human answers 24/5. Free Investment Plans and fractional shares cover the long-term side. It wins on execution, mobile app and ease of use, the three criteria that weigh most on this page.
Keep in mind: no options, bonds or extended hours. The 0.5% currency fee makes US stocks expensive for active traders. The platform is CFD-first by design: check the instrument type before every order. Read the XTB review.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 75% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
🥈 2. Trader Workstation and IBKR Desktop: the most powerful, not for beginners
Interactive Brokers Ireland (Central Bank of Ireland), part of a group with 4.7 million client accounts in March 2026, gives European traders Trader Workstation (TWS), IBKR Desktop, IBKR Mobile, GlobalTrader and the Client Portal. TWS has 100+ order types and algos, option chains, scanners and the TWS API used by most retail algo traders in Europe.
Fees: Fixed plan €3 per European trade (0.05% above €6,000), $0.005 per US share with a $1 minimum, 0.03% automatic currency conversion, margin from 3.73% on EUR (August 2026). Real-time data bundles are paid; delayed data is free.
What the platform does well: execution with direct access to exchanges, breadth (150+ markets in 33 countries), extended and overnight hours on US stocks, multi-currency cash, automated trading through the API.
Keep in mind: TWS inhibits people who are starting out. The learning curve is real, the account opening is long, and there is no account manager. GlobalTrader is the simpler app, but it hides most of what makes IBKR worth it. See Interactive Brokers vs Freedom24 and why I left IBKR.
🥉 3. Trading 212 app: cheapest trading platform for stocks
Trading 212 serves EU clients through Trading 212 Markets Ltd, regulated by CySEC, with more than 5 million clients and €30 billion in client assets. The app and web platform use TradingView charts and offer 13,000+ real stocks and ETFs.
Fees: €0 commission on stocks and ETFs, 0.15% currency conversion, no platform fees, custody, withdrawal or inactivity fees. Trading 212 pays interest on uninvested cash: 2.2% on EUR and 3.3% on USD, paid daily. Minimum deposit €1, minimum investment €1 with fractional shares.
What the platform does well: 24/5 trading on US stocks, extended hours, fractional shares from €1, Pies and AutoInvest for recurring buys, a public API, portfolio transfers in and out at no cost.
Keep in mind: no options, bonds or futures, limited research tools, no phone support. I have not tested Trading 212 with my own account: the score is based on the published pricing and features, and on reader feedback, which is decent. The platform also sells CFDs, so check you are on the Invest account before you trade.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 71% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
4. Saxo TraderGO and Saxo TraderPRO: the professional platform to watch
Saxo Bank A/S is a Danish bank founded in 1992 with 2,427 employees and DKK 4.96 billion revenue in 2025. SaxoTraderGO runs in the browser and on mobile with native TradingView charts; SaxoTraderPRO is the desktop platform for multi-screen trading; SaxoInvestor is the simplified version.
Fees: Classic account charges 0.08% on stocks with a €2 minimum in Europe and $1 in the US, 0.25% currency conversion, $2 per US option contract. A custody fee of 0.15% per year still applies in some countries; Saxo removed it in others during 2024 and 2025, so check your country page. Minimum deposit €2,000 for EU residents. No withdrawal or inactivity fee.
What the platform does well: 71,000+ instruments including stocks, ETFs, bonds, mutual funds and other investment funds, forex, options and futures on international markets; trailing stops, OCO and algorithmic orders; Level 2 data; OpenAPI for automated trading; research from Saxo strategists. Interest on uninvested cash is paid on Platinum and VIP tiers. It is the closest thing to Interactive Brokers with a modern interface.
Keep in mind: the €2,000 entry ticket and the tier system (Classic, Platinum from $200,000, VIP) are built for larger accounts. I have not run a full test on Saxo yet; it is the platform I am watching most closely for 2027.
Trading in the financial markets involves risk. Only invest money you can afford to lose.
Freedom24 platform: the most interactive platform, with a person behind it
Freedom24 runs its own web platform and mobile app, built by Freedom Finance Europe Ltd (CySEC licence 275/15, part of NASDAQ-listed Freedom Holding Corp). You trade 40,000+ stocks, 3,600 ETFs, 147,000 bonds, US stock options and futures on 15 exchanges from one screen.
What the platform does well: the order ticket is simple (market, limit, stop, stop-limit), the demo account has €10,000, and the weekly analyst ideas sit inside the platform. Real-time US quotes cost €1.25 per month. Savings plans on ETFs and stocks are free from €1 since July 2026.
Why it scores 5 on support: you are never left alone. Every client has a named account manager who answers in your language. If a stock or ETF is not listed on the platform, you can ask your manager and Freedom24 adds it when the exchange allows. No other platform on this page takes requests. It is the most alive and interactive trading platform I use.
Keep in mind: no extended-hours trading, no API, no fractional shares, €7 per bank withdrawal. The interface is average: it works, it does not impress. Advanced multi-leg option strategies are not supported.
Investments in securities and other financial instruments always involve the risk of loss of your capital. The forecast or past performance is no guarantee of future results. It is essential to do your own analysis before making any investment.
6. Scalable Broker: a savings-plan app that also trades
Scalable Capital is a Munich broker supervised by BaFin (Scalable Broker GmbH, custody at Baader Bank). The Scalable Broker app and web platform trade stocks, ETFs and crypto ETPs on gettex and on its own venue, the European Investor Exchange, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fees: FREE Broker charges €0.99 per trade and €0 on PRIME ETFs from €250; PRIME+ costs €4.99 per month and removes the €0.99 fee on trades from €250. All savings plans are free from €1. US stocks trade in euros on German venues, so there is no currency conversion fee but a wider spread. Uninvested cash earns 2.50% p.a. No custody, withdrawal or inactivity fees.
What the platform does well: the cleanest onboarding of the seven, free real-time gettex prices, savings plans on 2,000+ ETFs, a mobile app that beats most trading apps on clarity.
Keep in mind: it is an investing app, not a trading platform: market, limit and stop orders only, no US exchanges, no extended hours, no options, no API, no demo account. It is here because readers ask, and because it wins on cost and ease of use; it ranks sixth because it lacks what active traders need. It is compared as a broker on the best brokers in Europe page.
Investing involves risks. The value of your investments can fall as well as rise and you may get back less than you invested.
7. eToro platform: good to start and to copy, too basic afterwards
eToro (Europe) Ltd is regulated by CySEC; the group listed on NASDAQ in May 2025 (ETOR) and has 40 million registered users. The platform is one app for stocks, ETFs, crypto and CFDs, with CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios built in.
Fees: ETFs $0, real stocks $1 per trade, 0.75% currency conversion from a EUR account to USD assets, free withdrawals from EUR accounts ($5 from USD accounts), no inactivity fee since May 28, 2026. Minimum deposit $50. Uninvested USD cash earns up to 3.55% for Club members.
What the platform does well: the easiest onboarding of the six, a $100,000 demo, and copy trading that costs nothing extra. Cheap on everything except currency conversion.
Keep in mind: three order types, no options, no bonds, no extended hours, no API, and positions cannot be transferred to another broker. Good to start and good to copy; once you trade on your own you outgrow it.
eToro is a multi-asset investment platform. The value of your investments may go up or down. Your capital is at risk.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 52% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work, and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
Copy Trading does not amount to investment advice. The value of your investments may go up or down. Your capital is at risk.
How I Rank Trading Platforms: Scoring Method
Each platform gets a score from 1 to 5 on seven criteria with fixed weights. The weighted total decides the order of this page. The weights are different from the best brokers in Europe page: there the question is where to keep a portfolio, here it is what you trade on every week, so execution, mobile app and ease of use weigh 50% together. Scores set on September 18, 2026.
| Platform | Execution and order types (20%) | Ease of use (15%) | Mobile app (15%) | Support and interaction (15%) | Tools and data (15%) | Market access (10%) | Cost for active traders (10%) | Weighted score |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XTB | 4 | 4 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 3.85 |
| Interactive Brokers | 5 | 2 | 4 | 2 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 3.75 |
| Trading 212 | 3 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 3.65 |
| Saxo | 4 | 2 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 5 | 2 | 3.60 |
| Freedom24 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 3.55 |
| Scalable Broker | 2 | 5 | 5 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 3.10 |
| eToro | 2 | 5 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 2.75 |
Execution and order types (20%) counts order types, extended hours, one-click trading and fill quality in my tests.
Ease of use (15%) covers account opening time, order ticket clarity and the learning curve.
Mobile app (15%) scores the app against the web platform. Support and interaction (15%) scores human support hours and channels, a named account manager, response times I recorded, and whether you can request instruments not yet listed.
Tools and data (15%) scores advanced trading tools: charting, real-time data cost, scanners, research and API.
Market access (10%) counts stocks, ETFs, options, bonds, futures and exchanges.
Cost for active traders (10%) is calculated on the 60-order profile above: €50 or less = 5, €51 to €100 = 4, €101 to €150 = 3, €151 to €200 = 2, above €200 = 1.
If market access and professional tools matter more to you than speed, Interactive Brokers and Saxo are your platforms. If cost matters most, Trading 212. If you want a person behind the screen, Freedom24. The scores are my judgment, the fees are the brokers’ own.
Best Trading Platform in Europe by Trading Style

Best day trading platform in Europe
Different trading styles need different platforms. For day trading the platform must have direct market access, level 2 quotes, hotkeys and low per-share commissions. Interactive Brokers TWS is the only one of the six that has all four, with $0.005 per share and 0.03% currency conversion. Saxo is the alternative with a friendlier interface. Commission-free apps are the wrong tool: the currency fee on every round trip costs more than a fixed commission.
Best trading app in Europe
Trading 212 and xStation Mobile are the best mobile trading apps in this list: fast, complete, with real-time quotes included. Lightyear is a smaller app-first alternative for stocks and ETFs with 0.35% currency conversion, not tested here. IBKR Mobile has every feature of TWS but the same density. The Freedom24 app covers the basics and adds the chat with your account manager. The Scalable Broker app is the clearest for savings plans but not built for trading.
Trading platform vs broker: what is the difference?
The broker holds your account and your securities (in the UK this is called a general investment account); the trading platform is the software you use to send orders. International brokers such as Interactive Brokers and Saxo offer several platforms on one account. Some brokers build their own platform (Freedom24, XTB with xStation, Saxo with SaxoTraderGO), others license or expose an API. This page compares the software. To compare account costs, regulation and savings plans, use the best brokers in Europe guide.
Regulation, Investor Protection and Taxes on European Trading Platforms
Every platform on this page belongs to an investment firm authorised under MiFID II by a local financial market regulator: CySEC in Cyprus (Freedom24, eToro, Trading 212), the Central Bank of Ireland (Interactive Brokers Ireland), KNF in Poland (XTB), the Danish FSA (Saxo Bank). The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) supervises the German brokers on the best brokers page, and the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) covers UK clients. Regulated brokers undergo regular audits, keep client securities segregated and belong to an investor compensation scheme that covers up to €20,000 per client in the EU.
Leveraged trading and CFDs. Five of the six platforms sell CFDs alongside real stocks. CFDs are complex financial instruments: the disclosed share of retail CFD accounts losing money is 52% at eToro, 71% at Trading 212 and 75% at XTB. If you want to own the stock, check the order ticket says “real stock” or “invest”, not “CFD”.
Capital gains tax and reporting. None of these platforms withholds capital gains tax for you outside their home market: as a Cypriot or Irish firm, Freedom24 and Interactive Brokers deliver an annual report and you file. Saxo and XTB provide downloadable tax reports by country. Trading 212 and eToro provide statements. If automated tax reporting matters to you, a domestic broker under your local regulator is simpler; that trade-off is covered in the best brokers guide.
Which platform is best for trading in Germany?
For traders in Germany the best platform is XTB xStation 5 for stocks and CFDs, Interactive Brokers Ireland for direct access to 150+ markets, and Freedom24 if you want US options and an account manager. Trade Republic and Scalable Capital are the German choices for ETF savings plans, not for active trading: they are compared on the best brokers in Europe page. Note that a Cypriot firm such as Freedom24 does not withhold the German Abgeltungsteuer; you declare gains yourself.
Can I make $1,000 per day from trading?
No platform can promise it and the disclosures say the opposite: between 52% and 75% of retail CFD accounts lose money at the platforms on this page. Making $1,000 a day consistently requires capital in the hundreds of thousands, low fees and years of practice. Start on a demo account, trade real stocks with small sizes, and treat any platform that promises daily income as a warning sign.
What Changed for Trading Platforms in Europe in 2026
- June 30, 2026: the EU ban on payment for order flow took effect. Commission-free platforms now earn from spreads and their own venues; Trading 212 states it does not sell order flow.
- May 28, 2026: eToro removed the $10 monthly inactivity fee and now charges $1 per real stock trade.
- July 2026: Freedom24 added free savings plans from €1 on 2,847 ETFs and 4,810 stocks.
- 2026: SaxoTraderGO integrated TradingView charts natively; Saxo removed custody fees in several EU countries.
- 2026: Trading 212 extended US stock trading to 24/5 and launched a public API.
How I Tested These Trading Platforms
- Opened and funded accounts at XTB, Interactive Brokers, Freedom24, Scalable Capital and eToro; Trading 212 and Saxo are scored on published features, pricing and reader feedback, and marked as such
- Placed real market, limit and stop orders on desktop and mobile over weeks or months
- Timed account opening, first deposit and first withdrawal
- Contacted support by chat, email and phone and recorded response times

Thanks Sal, I will read it later on the train back home. I might want to switch from XTB to something else.
That’s great, Josie
I have both Freedom24 and IB. I prefer Freedom24 as a trading platform. Less complexity and a personal account manager that helps me.
