Safety and Regulation

Is XTB Regulated?

No one wants to put their money on a trading site that closes and runs away with the funds. That’s why I have always used and mentioned on this site only those platforms that are regulated in Europe with satisfactory standards.

Is XTB Regulated?

XTB, or X-Trade Brokers, is indeed a regulated entity. The company is primarily regulated by several major financial authorities globally, including:

  1. Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom.
  2. Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego (KNF) in Poland.
  3. Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) in Cyprus.

Here is the FCA authorisation of XTB in the UK:

xtb fca uk

The broker is also regulated by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) for multiple European countries where it operates, so if you live in any European country you can use it safely.

xtb licence

These regulatory bodies ensure that XTB adheres to strict financial standards and practices, providing a level of security and trust for its customers. Regulations cover aspects like fair trading practices, client fund protection (financial services compensation scheme) and transparency.

Key Takeaway: XTB is regulated by multiple reputable financial authorities (TIER 1), which underscores its commitment to maintaining a secure and trustworthy trading environment for its clients.

How is your money protected on XTB?

What do I think?

  • Do they also offer CFDs, which are considered to be a risky asset?
  • Yes.

  • Do they provide a safe environment in which to do so?
  • Yes.

XTB protects the assets that clients deposit in broker accounts.

How is your money protected on XTB today?

  • Security of Funds: Clients’ funds are likely to be held in segregated accounts, a common practice among regulated brokers.
  • Investor Protection Schemes: While specific details on investor protection schemes (like compensation funds) were not directly mentioned, regulation by entities such as the FCA typically includes such protections.
  • Regulation and Compliance: XTB Limited is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 522157), ensuring adherence to strict financial and operational standards.
  • Risk Management with CFDs: Trading CFDs involves significant risk, which is communicated clearly by XTB. They highlight that 76% of retail investor accounts lose money and stress the importance of understanding how CFDs work.

Key Takeaway: XTB keeps the investors’ money in segregate accounts and protections schemes are in place.

Is XTB Safe to Trade With?

My personal take: Considering where and how XTB is regulated and all the measures it takes to protect and educate its clients, I believe that XTB is a safe place to trade. I do not forget that XTB allows me to trade mainly retail CFD account, a type of asset among the most criticized in the trading world. Besides CFDs, however, I can trade 3000 stocks and 300 ETFs, while I enjoy 4.2% on uninvested cash balances, which is not bad.

The website content does not provide specific details on the different types of accounts that XTB offers directly.

XTB DEMO Account explained

The DEMO Account on XTB includes everything above but you cannot lose money, it is made for people to learn the platform.

Of course, the demo account does not teach you how to trade and manage risk. It is obvious that if you are not trading with real money, you do not have to manage all the emotional aspects that cause people to lose money in the stock market. Therefore, trust the demo only to learn how to use XTB, not to trade and think you can become proficient with paper money.

XTB Customer Service Quality

I have tested XTB Customer Support (here is what I’ve found out)

XTB Customer Service Quality

I have tested XTB support several times.

This is not because I have many issues but just to report to you here in this XTB review some real life experience.

Well, there is not much to say: they answer.

The answer you get are normally shallow if the question is too wide, but all the times I have explained in detail what was my issue I received a complete answer.

Most of the times I use the chat box to receive support, but if I won’t be online in the following minutes I prefer email support.

Awards Recognition and Trust

Summary of XTB’s Awards and Recognition

I don’t need to be the one to tell you how famous, awarded, and recognized XTB is, and I’m not interested either. I think like a pure user, just like you.

awardes broker cfd

The following information underscores the high esteem in which XTB is held in the trading community:

  • Reputation and Trust: XTB has established a significant presence in the market with over 18 years of operation, amassing a base of nearly 1 million investors worldwide.
  • Regulation and Compliance: XTB is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, this is a TIER 1 regulator.
  • Client Base and Market Reach: Over 5 million app downloads.

XTB’s Interest-Bearing Account Program

Since November 2023, XTB has been added to the list of brokers that offer an interest-bearing account program for their clients’ uninvested capital.

In this case, XTB’s remuneration plan is available to all customers, requiring no specific actions (no need to ask for it).

broker interest

Here are the details:

New Clients:

  • Dollars: 5% per annum
  • Euros: 4.2% per annum

Existing Clients (those who have opened their accounts for more than 90 days)

  • Dollars: 2.5% per annum
  • Euros: 2% per annum

Interest payments are made during the first five business days of each month. Should clients choose to withdraw funds midway through the month, there would be no issues, as interest is calculated on a daily basis.

We are talking of a nice 4,2% interest on non invested money up to 90 days. Then liquidity generates 2%.

XTB Investment Plans

Furthermore, XTB offers an innovative feature: a customizable savings tool that enables you to design your personal investment plan based on your risk appetite and preferences.

XTB Investment Plans

This tool allows each investment plan to include up to 9 ETFs, with the investor deciding the optimal allocation for each. Additionally, investors can establish up to 9 different investment plans per account.

And what about the fees?

The fee structure remains consistent, offering zero commission on transactions involving stocks and even the best dividend ETFs, as long as the total monthly trading volume does not exceed €100,000.

My Opinion on XTB Broker

I think XTB is a good broker especially for Forex and CFD trading.

Until some time ago it was not right for beginners but now thinghs have changed.

It offers a variety of financial instruments, notably its catalog of over 3,000 real stocks and more than 300 ETFs, with fractional investment options starting from 10 €.

From the point of view of safety, XTB is regulated by multiple financial authorities worldwide.

Opinions about XTB have somehow improved over the past few years.

This is possibly because of its evolution from a CFD-focused broker catering to pure trading to a broad-spectrum investment broker with “ordinary stuff”, ETFs and stocks included.

Additionally, XTB’s commitment to financial education is noteworthy.

XTB is big, it is now one of the top 5 European brokers in terms of active client numbers.

What I dislike is the currency exchange of 0,5%, but let’s be honest, brokers like eToro charge up to 2%.

What I like is:

  • the infinite possibilities, the modern look, the powerful app
  • most people don’t take advantage of the 4,2% interest on cash, but it is there
  • investment plans up to 9 ETFs for a very conveniente price is a plus

Well, now it’s your turn! What is your opinion on XTB broker?
